A walk through the historic old town of Bad Mergentheim provides exciting insights into the town's history. One of the most famous landmarks, the Milchlingsbrunnen fountain, awaits you on the market square. The fountain depicts a knight leaning on a shield with the coat of arms of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. Nearby are the imposing twin houses from the early classicist style, which are astonishing due to their almost identical construction. Opposite is the old town hall, a Renaissance building that underlines the historic charm of the town center. Another highlight is the bell tower of St. John the Baptist Minster, whose sacristy houses the Minster Treasure - an exhibition that presents works of art from the late Gothic period to modern times. Art fans should also not miss the famous Stuppach Madonna by Matthias Grünewald in the parish church in the Stuppach district.
Very close to the market square is the baroque castle of the Teutonic Order, which fascinates visitors with its eventful history and magnificent architecture. Once built as a medieval moated castle, it developed into a prestigious palace in the 16th century. The magnificent halls and the famous Berwart staircase, a masterpiece by Blasius Berwart, are particularly worth seeing. In the castle you will find the Teutonic Order Museum, which impressively illuminates the history of the Teutonic Order. The exhibition is complemented by the Mörike Cabinet, a collection from the Neolithic period, doll's houses and historical exhibits from Adelsheim's antiquities collection. Those interested in culture should not miss the regular concerts and literary events in the Red Hall. A special jewel of the castle is the artistically designed castle church. The extensive spa gardens are part of the castle and offer peace and relaxation with old trees, bridges, watercourses and a labyrinth. The evening water features in particular, which impress with colorful light and music, are an experience.
