The city of Munich is the capital of the German state of Bavaria. It is home to about 1.5 million people of diverse cultures and nationalities and is considered one of the most liveable cities in the world. Munich sits at the banks of the river Isar and is home to Museumsinsel, Deutsches Museum and Olympiapark Munich, which was built for the XX Olympic Games in 1972.

There are not many places like Munich in Europe. Munich is the perfect combination of tradition and modern urbanity. It is one of the most important economic as well as cultural centres in Germany and in Europe. Munich is home to many big companies and educational institutions such as the Technical University Munich TUM.
Munich is a great place to visit in the winter or during bad weather. There are so many things to do such as ice-skating at Prinzregentenstadion or tobogganing in the English Garden. Enjoy outdoor swimming in 30°C hot water at Dantebad. Try Bavarian curling on one of Munich´s longest rinks at Nymphenburg Castle or visit one of the numerous museums, exhibitions or openings. Car enthusiasts should not miss the BMW-Museum.
The area comprises four separate sub-areas: Olympic area, Olympic Village, Olympia-Pressestadt and Olympic Park. The park covers an area of 85 hectares and accommodates also the Olympic stadium, the Olympic indoor swimming pool, the Olympic mountain, the Olympic lake and the impressive Olympic tower. Being the second tallest building in Bavaria, the 291m Olympic tower has become one of Munich’s landmarks. The tower restaurant at 181 m offers a stunning 360-degree view as well as fine dining in great atmosphere. In the winter the Olympic mountain is great fun for tobogganing and in the summer it is the place to be for the whole family.
In the summer visit the beautiful parks of Nymphenburg Castle. Football fans will be thrilled by Allianz Arena easily reached by public transport. In hot weather explore the trails and cycle routes along the river Isar. Do not forget to stop at one of the traditional beer gardens for a cool Bavarian beer. The city center of Munich is famous for its spacious pedestrian zone, spreading around the Marienplatz. Marienplatz is a hotspot for locals and tourists as well, lots of shops and restaurants welcome you to spend some time in this area.
